PE Policy

P.E. Rules and Expectations

  1. Be on time and changed into a sport outfit (also sport shoes) at the P.E. location
  2. All jewelry and watches are off when participating in P.E. class. Leave items at home, in lockers (M.S. & H.S.), inside the student’s desks (E.S.), or in a box in the P.E. storage room.
  3. Caps are allowed, even encouraged in P.E. classes, and during recess or other activities (only when P.E. is outside).
  4. Students who can not participate need a parent's or doctor's note to be excused from participating. Parent's notes are only valid for one class, doctor's notes can indicate a longer period of time.
  5. Excused students stay at all times in the P.E. area, unless there is an agreement with the parents and a supervisor to work at another location.
  6. When an excused student with a parent note misses a skill test, he or she has to do a make- up test at the end of the quarter. This is the student’s own responsibility for M.S. and H.S. students. Time for make- ups will be available after school on announced days.
  7. When an excused student with a doctors note misses a skill test, he or she may receive a (passing) grade for additional work done in the P.E. classes. After being excused with a doctor's note, for a longer period of time. A parent's note is then required, giving permission to participate in P.E. again.

P.E. Curriculum Guidelines

  1. The program for PK, K and grades 1-2 will be based on developing fundamental movements like balancing, climbing, rolling, jumping, running, moving in a certain space, aiming,throwing, catching, kicking, etc.
  2. The program for grades 1 – 2 will continue to develop these fundamental movements, and apply them more in games, or game--like situations.
  3. The program for grades 3 – 5 starts with modified games, to learn the basics of most sports and activities. Specific drills and exercises are already being taught, and will continue to develop
  4. The program for grades 6-11 specializes more in the specific sports and activities, with skills, agility and conceptual understanding to be developed.

P.E. Grading Policy

  1. Grading for the grades PK – 2 will be the result of teacher observation of skills, and how
    children develop during the year.
  2. General grading for the grades 4 – 12:
    · 50% participation and effort
    · 25% technical skills
    · 25% playing skills, positioning, rules, attitude, cooperation, sportsman like behavior.

Please note:
Parents are asked to help their children come to school prepared for P.E. lessons according to the P.E. timetable. Water bottles should be filled and brought to lessons to keep students hydrated during and/ or after activities. Caps and sunblock are also advised on hot and/ or sunny days.
