Baseball Lesson Plan - Grade 5

  • Perform a overhand throw with appropriate technique (rubric)
  • Catch balls that arrive at chest height from 10-15 meters distance
  • Know and perform the technique of batting (step, turn of feet and swing)

Throwing and catching

Batting (T-ball standard or pitcher):
  • Make 3 hits, then change
  • hit the ball on the T-ball standard, or hit it from a pitch.

Equipment for unit:

4 bats, 5 baseballs, 8 tennis balls, 4 T-ball standards, 24 gloves, 4 bases, 5 medium cones

Throwing and catching in couples, distance between students about 8-10 meters

Batting in 4 groups, students have a number and bat in that order. Three hits and change. Other students are in the field and catch the balls

Throwing and catching:
  • Only overhand throws
  • step with the opposite foot when throwing
  • Start with the ball behind the body (straight arm)
Batting:
  • hands together (left under)
  • Check distance to base
  • weight on back foot
  • bat pointing up, right elbow is up
  • step with left, turn right foot and swing
  • Hit the ball that is goes forward, without going too high.

Hit and run game:
  • Hit the ball from the standard or a pitch and make as many runs as possible between the home plate and the base. Keep on running till the fielders block one of the bases with the ball or when make you out.
  • Points are for the persons, not for a team.

Hit and run in 4 groups.T-ball standard is home, base is at 10 meters distance into the field.Medium cones between the fields are the in-out lines,

Hit and run:
  • Hit the ball straight in the field
  • run in a straight line between the bases, leaving this line with more than 1 meter means out
  • out is touching with the ball in possession or on the base
  • as a fielder, only touch the base if you have the ball to make an out.
