Basketball Lesson Plan - Grade 3

  • Start to apply the BEEF in the shooting technique, shoot with one hand giving the ball a spin.

Game 2:3/ 3:3 on half field

Materials for whole unit:

12 basketballs, 5 sets of 4 pinnies, 5 small cones

Skills:

  • in couples

Pass:
  • ball starts at chest
  • Step and pass in fluent movement
  • Only move one foot when you have the ball in possession
  • When finished passing, hands point towards the direction of where the ball goes to.
Shooting:
  • Ball starts in just in front and above the eyes
  • place hands on the hands on the ball and shoot with one hand
  • Give back spin to the ball by flexing the wrist.
Game:
  • Ball has to start in the middle circle before making a point. When ball is intercepted, free pass back to the middle and game starts again.
  • Only passes, no dribbling yet
  • Use the techniques just practiced in skills
  • Apply walking rule, you can only move one foot when having the ball (pivot)

Assessing passes and shooting

Playing: 2:3/ 3:3 half field

Additional material:

Stopwatch

  • ½ of the class starts playing on half a field
  • ½ of the class starts doing the assessment of the passes and shooting

3 teams, each game is 4 ½ minutes4 teams, each game is 3 minutes

Game:

Students have to work independent in the game, applying the rules and being their own referee.

Teams of 3
Play on half field

Teams of 3, two fields:

Games are each 4 ½ minutes
Win is 3 points
Even is 1 point
Lose is 0 points
  • Apply the lay ups in the game
  • Keep field open, go to positions where you can get the ball, not too far, not too close from the ball.
