Rhythm and Music Lesson Plan - Grade 4

Warming up in 5 fitness stations:
  1. running
  2. jump rope (short)
  3. sit ups
  4. jumping jacks
  5. back muscles
Dance
  • See dance description page 1
  • practice without music
  • then with music

Materials for unit:

CD player, music, 12 small cones, 4 medium cones, 5 yellow jump ropes, 6 gym mats, masking tape, 6 dodge balls

Warming up:

  • divide class in 5 groups
  • work on music (40-50 seconds each station)
  • change to the next station when the music stops
Dance:
  • Song no.1
  • Song no. 2 (optional)
  • Students are in lines with enough space between them
Warming up:
  • work on the rhythm of the music whenever possible

Dance:

  • dance is 16 seconds
  • build up in 2 x 8 seconds
  • 1234 is moving
  • 5678 is movement
  • Final dance goes in 4 directions
  • Listen to the speed of the music

  • When going well, use last no.3

  • focus on steps and movements in the rhythm of the music
  • when working in line, pay attention where the person is where you have to interact with.

  • Final practice with song no. 3
  • Assessing with song no. 3
Final game:
  • Goal game, two teams, each team has three goals and three goalies. Goal is to score in a goal of the other team to take the goalie out, when a goalie is out, a new student comes in.
Dance assessing:
  • Put students on alphabetical order on their place
Final game:
  • Three goals on each side
  • 6 dodge balls
Dance assessing:
  • Listen to the music and stay in the rhythm
Final game:
  • Find the good moment to throw the ball and work together with the other goalies
  • Throwing too hard means back in line
