Volleyball Lesson Plan - Grade 4

Volleyball skills: Set pass
  1. throw ball soft up in the air and pass it using set pass technique. The other student catches and does the same.
  2. If possible and when the ball comes in the right position, pass back without catching

Volleyball game: “Keep 'm high”

For every 10 passes in a row, a group earns 1 point. Which groups gets the most points? The ball may bounce once in each pass. Start counting again when the ball hits the ground twice in a row, or when a player hits the ball two times in a row.

Materials:

12 volleyballs, 12 small cones, 2 volleyball nets.

Skills:

  • Students work in couples passing the ball over the net.
Game:
  • Class is divided in 4 groups
  • Groups work in a circle
Skills:
  • Fingers are pointing up
  • Thumbs and index fingers make a triangle/ diamond
  • Fingers are slightly bend
  • Push ball up with the fingertips
  • Hit ball in front, and above the eyes
Game:
  • Try to use the technique just practiced during the skills
  • Give high passes so it is easier for the next person to pass the ball

Skills: Set and bump pass
  • Set passes, to start, throw ball soft up and make pass, next person catches and does the same.
  • When the ball comes at the right height, try to make a pass without catching
  • Bump pass, student 1 throws 5 times the ball to student 2 who passes back. Change after 5 times.
  • Combining set and bump passes. Depending on the position of the ball students choose which technique they use to pass The ball is allowed to bounce once in each passes to make it easier.
Volleyball game:
  1. Keep 'm high using both techniques. 10 passes is a point. The ball may bounce once in each pass

Materials:

12 volleyballs, 12 small cones, 2 volleyball nets.

Skills:

  • Students start working in couples passing the ball over the net.
  • When practicing the bump pass, both students are on the same side of the net within a distance of 3 meters.
Game:
  • Class is divided in 4 groups
  • Groups work in a circle

  • Only move arms a little to give direction to the ball

  • Make a forward swing when doing service.
  • Hit ball on the hand just under the wrist
  • Serve the ball in the hands of the other students
  • The service has to be high enough to go over the net.

  • Serve the ball over the net, receiver makes a bump pass and students keep on passing the ball.

  • Receiving of service in groups of 4.

  • 2:2 on small fields

Skills:

  • When receiving a service use a bump pass whenever possible.

  • Receiving of service followed by passes

Materials:

12 volleyballs, 12 small cones, 2 volleyball nets.

Warming up:

  • Teams of 4-5 students
Games:
  • When receiving a service, give a soft but high pass to the next person or over the net.

  • Lower hand service

Game: 2:2/ 3:3

Materials:

12 volleyballs, 12 small cones, 2 volleyball nets.

  • ½ of the class plays game
  • ½ of the class will do assessment.
Students who are playing have to work independent according to the rules of the game and the class
